Parliament Security Breach Sparks Crisis: BJP MP Under Investigation

Unprecedented Incident Exposes Security Lapse, Threatens Modi Government's Credibility

New Delhi, December 13: The BJP, celebrating victories in three out of five states, anticipated a successful winter assembly. However, confidence diminished when an unexpected security breach rocked Parliament. And it gives the opposition a powerful tool to criticize the Modi government. BJP MP Pratap Simha, who granted a pass to one of the trespassers, is now facing scrutiny. And the accused individuals charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Discussions about a potential investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) add complexity to the situation.

Simha promptly met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to clarify the pass issuance circumstances. He explained that the pass was granted to Sagar Sharma’s father, a resident of his Lok Sabha constituency, who wished to visit the new Parliament building. Despite Simha’s explanation, the BJP leadership advised him not to respond publicly to the media.

Amidst the controversy, Congress workers staged protests at Simha’s office in Mysuru. The Congress utilized a picture of Simha with Modi, emphasizing ‘Intrusion into Parliament on BJP MP’s pass.’ The BJP, in turn, perceives a larger conspiracy behind the incident.

This incident challenges the BJP’s assertions of improved security and reduced terrorist attacks. Even in the new building, the breach reveals a significant security lapse, offering the opposition a potent point against the Modi government.

On the day of the breach, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan caused chaos during the Lok Sabha recess. Sagar released yellow smoke in the Lok Sabha chamber, while Manoranjan stayed in the gallery, releasing more smoke. Neelam Devi and Amol Shinde spread colored smoke and shouted slogans outside Parliament. Six individuals are reported to be involved.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the attackers knew each other and planned the attack through connections on Facebook. CCTV footage is currently under examination, with intelligence agencies collaborating to gather more information about the accused.

This security breach signifies a failure to protect a significant institution and challenges. And it’s a clear failure of the Modi government’s claims of heightened security measures. As investigations unfold, the incident becomes a focal point for the ruling party and the opposition. That can shape the narrative of accountability and security concerns in the political landscape. The repercussions extend beyond the immediate aftermath. It raises questions about the government’s credibility and the effectiveness of current security protocols. The accused individuals facing UAPA charges and the potential NIA investigation add a layer of legal complexity to the evolving situation.
