DK Shivakumar Claims ‘Political Vendetta’ as Karnataka High Court Lifts CBI Probe Stay
Deputy Chief Minister Accuses BJP's Political Grudge in Disproportionate Assets Case
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expressed his disappointment after the Karnataka High Court rejected his plea to quash the CBI case in a disproportionate assets case. He described it as a “political vendetta” and suggested that it results from the BJP’s political hatred.
Despite this setback, Shivakumar reiterated his trust in the judiciary and said he would legally challenge the Karnataka High Court’s decision to lift the stay on the CBI investigation.
He asserted, “I will cooperate with whatever the process is; I respect the law of this country. I know that I have not done anything wrong. My papers are clean. I am clean. It is a political vendetta that the BJP tried using, and the government gave permission.”
Shivakumar further claimed that he is a target of the BJP’s political grudge, and this current CBI investigation is an extension of the previous Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe conducted by the BJP.
In a significant legal development, the Karnataka High Court dismissed Shivakumar’s petition to cancel the CBI’s disproportionate assets case. Justice K Natarajan ordered the central agency to complete its investigation and submit the final report within three months.
The CBI has filed an appeal against the Karnataka High Court’s earlier order dated June 12 and requested the investigation’s suspension in the disproportionate assets case. Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, representing the CBI, urged the court to lift the stay.
The CBI’s probe revolves around allegations of Shivakumar possessing assets exceeding his known income sources following an earlier Income Tax search conducted against him.
