Telangana’s High-Stakes Battle: BRS vs. Congress in Election Showdown

As the State Decides its Fate, Key Issues and Surveys Paint the Electoral Landscape

Telangana is the newest state in India. It will have an election on November 25, 2023. The election will decide who will rule the state for five years. There are 119 seats in the state assembly and over 3.1 crore people who can vote. The main parties are the BRS and the Congress.

The BRS is the party that is in power now. It is led by K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), who is the chief minister of Telangana. The BRS says that it has done a lot of good things for the state, such as welfare schemes, development projects and regional identity. The Congress is the party that wants to replace the BRS. A Revanth Reddy, the president of the Congress in Telangana, leads it. The Congress says it can do better than the BRS, which is corrupt, inefficient and anti-Telangana.

The parties have been fighting a lot during the election campaign. They have said bad things about each other and made many accusations. The BRS says that the Congress is dishonest, weak and anti-Telangana. The Congress declares that the BRS is dictatorial, dynastic and anti-farmer.

Some of the critical issues that the voters care about are:

  • The Kaleshwaram project is a big project to bring water to many areas in Telangana. The BRS says that this project is perfect for Telangana and calls it a lifeline for the state. The Congress declares that this project is terrible and calls it a scam involving money and high costs.
  • The farm laws are new laws made by the central government in 2020. These laws have caused many farmers angry, and they have been protesting against them. The BRS says that these laws are bad for farmers and wants them to be cancelled. The Congress declares that it supports the farmers and will remove these laws if it comes to power.
  • The unemployment situation has become worse because of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns. According to a report, Telangana had an unemployment rate of 10.6% in September 2023, which is higher than the average of India, which is 8%. The parties say that they will create more jobs and improve the economy.

The election results will be announced on December 2, 2023. The results will matter not only for Telangana but also for India, as they will show how the people feel before the 2024 national elections.

So who will win this election? According to recent surveys, the BRS is ahead of Congress, as more people like it than Congress. A study done by Times Now-C Voter in October 2023 said that the BRS would win 86 seats while the Congress would get only 25 seats. Another survey by India Today-Axis My India in November 2023 noted that the BRS would win 80-90 seats while the Congress would get 20-30 seats.
