Akhilesh Yadav’s Concerns Over Congress Alliance: Caste Census and Electoral Alliances

SP Leader Expresses Discontent with Congress, Cites Caste Census and MP Election Discord

Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP), expressed his dissatisfaction with the Congress party, claiming that they failed to honor their commitment to ally with his party in Madhya Pradesh (MP). Yadav also criticized their newfound interest in a caste census, something they neglected in the past.

A caste census is a survey aimed at determining the population of various social groups in India. Some of these groups are referred to as backward castes due to the discrimination and poverty they often face. Akhilesh Yadav voiced his party’s support for the caste census, emphasizing that it would be a valuable tool in assisting these marginalized groups. He suggested that the Congress party’s prior reluctance to pursue a caste census reflected their lack of concern for these communities.

According to Akhilesh, the Congress party is now witnessing a decline in support from these groups. He views this as a remarkable development, indicating that the Congress party’s electoral success hinges on its ability to appeal to these demographics. These remarks were made during a visit to Bhadohi, a town in Uttar Pradesh (UP).

These comments came in response to the Congress party’s announcement of its candidate list for the MP elections. The Congress party declared that it would not ally with the SP or any other political group. This decision upset the SP because they believed that the Congress party had agreed to allocate some seats to them. The SP pointed out that they had secured one seat in MP in 2018, but the Congress party has now fielded its candidate in that constituency.
Both the SP and the Congress party are members of a larger coalition known as the INDIA alliance, comprising 28 parties united in opposition to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India.

Akhilesh Yadav expressed concerns about the ability of the Indian alliance to challenge the BJP effectively, warning that internal disagreements could undermine their efforts. He emphasized the critical nature of the 2024 national elections, where the coalition will face a significant challenge. He stated that he would consider the alliance’s future at that time.

The MP elections are scheduled for November 17, with the results expected on December 3.
